HOPE HOUSE LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR HOPE TO RAISE FINAL $2.5 MILLION TO BUILD A NEW HOME

New FacilityHope House has embarked on the final, public portion of its campaign to raise $2.5 million to complete the construction of a brand new residential treatment facility in Lower Roxbury. The new Hope House will consolidate programming and operations under one roof, allowing one of Boston’s oldest residential recovery programs to serve more clients and to deliver services more efficiently.

The 35,00 square foot residential treatment center is 2 separate projects; in addition to an 80-bed Recovery Home where clients will reside during the treatment program we are adding a Graduate Home to provide 22 units of affordable housing for homeless graduates of Hope House and other area recovery programs.

While housed under one roof, both will have separate and distinct entrances. The 80-bed Recovery Home will have shared bedrooms, dorms and laundry rooms; a commercial kitchen; a multi-use dining room; computer labs; and meeting and counseling space. The Graduate Home will have 22 affordable housing units with kitchenettes and common bathrooms. As part of the effort to keep these units affordable, Hope House has been declared eligible to participate in the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP).

Permits and approvals are in place and construction began in the fall of 2007. Significant completion of the foundation and structural framework is expected to be complete by June 2008. The completion of construction is anticipated for winter 2009 and occupancy is planned for the spring.

The capital campaign was initially announced at our Anniversary Gala in spring 2007 at Venezia Waterfront Restaurant in Boston. Our campaign went officially public in December 2007 when we began soliciting individual donors through our first annual appeal. Foundation and corporate fundraising is ongoing and individual solicitations continue to be developed. Campaign solicitation is expected to be complete in 2009 with pledge completion expected in 2010.

The $15 million project is funded by an array of both public and private sources. We are fortunate that we have raised over 80% of the funding required through the pending sale of our current properties and the receipt of core funding from several funders such as Wainwright Bank and Trust Company; Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation; Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development; Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency, Center for Community Recovery Initiatives; City Of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development; Boston Redevelopment Authority, Neighborhood Housing Trust; and Massachusetts Affordable Housing Trust.
